itk, a company specialized in Decision Support Systems for agriculture, is proud to be among the partners that the US Giant, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ) has chosen to develop innovative solutions in the field of Internet of Things (IoT). This announcement has been made during the Mobile World Congress 2016, on February 25th in Barcelona. The MWC is the world’s largest exhibition of the mobile telephony industry. This follows the launching of the “ThingSpace” platform by Verizon in October 2015. This simple platform aims at allowing businesses and developers of all sizes to build, manage and distribute applications.

Verizon Communications Inc., located in New York, employs about 177,700 people. The group is the largest U.S. wireless communication service provider, which connects millions of people, companies and communities every day. Verizon also offers communication and entertainment services through its fiber-optics network and is the most successful of the US. Verizon also provides integrated solutions to companies worldwide.

Verizon Communications Inc. is now engaged in new deployments powered by Internet of Things (IoT) in five different sectors. Added to sustainability and public safety, “ThingSpace poised to solve big challenges in healthcare, agriculture and urban development,” announces the group. This explains the different announced partnerships.

Funded by Eric Jallas, a former CIRAD research director, itk will contribute to the development of the agriculture branch of this platform. At the UWGS 2016 that was held in Sacramento, California, on January 29th, the company has presented the first connected flowmeter in the world. An all “plug and play” tool that measures real-time irrigation water quantities added to a field in response to the real crops needs.

itk is the only French company selected by the American giant in the agricultural field. “I’m very happy to collaborate with Verizon Communications Inc. with whom we are going to build great and valuable things. This partnership will bring us an international visibility and will increase our growth worldwide,” says Eric Jallas. He also adds: “In a global warming context and the different issues that the agricultural sector is facing, itk develops tools which help improve farm profitability and optimize natural resources used, particularly water, nutrient and pesticides”.

  • Verizon Communications Inc. registers 132 billion dollars of turnover in 2015.
