Internet connection is crucial for farms using connected collars for herd monitoring.

In September the Farmlife monitoring service has been boosted by a new 4G connection on the FarmBox® and FarmBox+®. The aim of this improvement is to allow advisors, distributors, partners and farmers to quickly and efficiently install FarmLife and focus on the data and possibilities offered by this solution.

Less hardware, more value and services

The farmlife monitoring solution is based on easy and reliable collar connections.

Its aim is to allow farmers to get zootechnical information in real time, and consult the indicators provided by the sensors placed on the connected collars via the mobile application. The sensor on the cow collar is used to monitor calving, reproduction, nutrition and behaviour, both in the barn and on pasture. Farmlife includes 6 services:

  • Heat detection
  • Calving detection
  • Animal activity
  • Ingestion, rumination
  • Grazing
  • Heat stress

No more cables, no more power surges … The Farmbox 4G makes it easier to connect the office and the barn easier, and offers additional reliability. Our challenge is to :

  •     Facilitate diagnostics
  •     Simplify the installation on the farm, without needing any technicians or hardware expert (cables, Wifi point, etc.)
  •     Reduce the overall cost of installation, and decrease after sales support expenses
  •     Facilitate the access to as many farms as possible, especially in foreign countries

A simple kit

This boosted connectivity will facilitate Internet access. The Farmbox 4G guarantees high network access and performance allowing flexible and scalable deployments in wider geographical areas. About fifteen test stations were set up during the summer of 2022. The tests revealed a very satisfactory performance. The FarmBox automatically collects data from the various Lorawan sensors available on cow collars, to transmit them to the ITK servers where they are processed and displayed via the Farmlife web and mobile interfaces. The sensor on the cow collar uses LoRa (short range) technology providing a long communication range between the base and the sensors up to 1 km. Animals can be supervised in buildings as well as on pasture. For suckling cattle on pasture, or in the event of a network failure, the sensors have a 5-day memory to guarantee the quality of service.

How does it work ?

The SIM card provided with the FarmBox will connect to the most accessible network on the farm. This option is available on previously installed Farmbox 3 (white).

The average coverage rate for France is 98% , similar to other European countries in which ITK is present. To check your internet accessibility, you can look up network coverages by the different operators. For France: monreseaumobile.arcep.fr
